Is that A David Yurman Necklace?

Jewelry shopping before surgery. #findthefunnyinthenotsofunny #makemineadoubleamastectomythatis #breastcancer

What I quickly found out was, I picked the very best chemo mate in any chemo room, ever! Mary gave me the rundown on what would take place during the course of the day.
It was time for my first surgery of many to come. I was having the port placed in which the chemo would be pushed through.
As I was being wheeled into surgery, I looked up at my doctor and asked her if she thought I was going to be okay. She replied, "knock on wood." With this, she glanced at my sister and asked, "Is that a David Yurman necklace?" She was jewelry shopping and, I was looking for an 84 Lumber!
At this time, friends and family were concerned, or, they were just happy it was me and not them. I kept thinking if 1 in 8 get breast cancer, then seven of my friends are very relieved about now. They had so many questions to which, I had no answers, it was still early in the game.
My thoughts at this point were, how was I going to get through this, how lucky I am that the 411 operator had found a rockstar team for me and when would I start looking like Howie Mandel's sister? I never thought, why me or poor me, my thoughts were, let's get this show on the road and get the cancer out of me!
On my first day of chemo, I walked in and said, "Hi, I'm Beth, I'll take a chair for one please." The nurse laughed on the spot. This is where I learned you have to find the funny in the not so funny in order to lighten up a bad situation. I asked her if a reservation was needed because the room looked full. I was told to have a seat and someone would be right with me. Wait, I wanted to say, you didn't take my drink order.
On my first day of treatment I came totally unprepared. Everyone else had chemo day bags packed. The bags were filled with knitting, laptops, books and lunch. Lunch, I thought to myself, exactly how long will I be here, well I have my port, I can charge my phone in it right?
e place as the nurses who are like cruise directors, got everyone situated for the day.
I watched with mild horror as the chemo nurse started on another patient. I had the same feeling as if I were sitting on a roller coaster getting ready to go.
You are weighed so they can accurately mix your cocktail, I was so thin at this point, I stepped right on up on the scale like I was a super model. In this case, you can, drink and drive.
The nurses take turns being the mixologists. The only thing missing was a tip jar. To watch them mix and measure to ensure the patient is receiving the correct dose is fascinating.
