Car Crash Into Home Kills 1, Hospitalizes 5 In Anne Arundel County: Police

A car crashed into a house after fleeing Anne Arundel County police, officers said. The wreck killed one and hospitalized five.

JESSUP, MD — A car crashed into a house Monday shortly after fleeing police in Anne Arundel County, officers said.

Authorities said the crash killed one and hospitalized five.

Police identified the deceased as 26-year-old passenger Julie Michelle Nushawg of Pasadena.

An Anne Arundel County Police Department patrol officer said they saw a vehicle speeding near Annapolis Road and Reece Road in Severn.

The officer said they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled.

The officer said they deactivated their emergency lights and didn't chase the vehicle.

A 911 call minutes later reported a crash on Jessup Road near Oak Ridge Road in Jessup, police said.

Officers said the same Lexus IS 350 sedan that evaded police was heading west on Jessup Road at a high rate of speed.

Authorities said the driver failed to negotiate a rightward curve.

The car left the roadway and hit a vacant home on the eastbound side of Jessup Road, police said.

Officers said medics took the driver and four passengers to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Police said Nushawg died soon after at shock trauma.

Medics took the fifth passenger to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie with serious injuries, officers said.

Authorities are still investigating.
