Flash Flood Watch Issued for Anne Arundel County

The watch will last from 2 p.m. Tuesday until 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch throughout the Annapolis area, including Anne Arundel County, beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday and lasting until 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

“Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will develop late today into tonight. These storms will be slow moving and capable of producing heavy rainfall. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible in an hour. With saturated ground, these rates could result in flash flooding.

“Small streams and urban areas will be especially susceptible to rapid rises of water onto normally dry areas.”

The National Weather Service reminds residents that a flash flood watch means “conditions may develop” that lead to flash floods.

“You should monitor later forecasts and prepared to take action should a flash flood warning be issued,” the National Weather Service said to close its alert.

The NWS also issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Anne Arundel County area Tuesday, warning that severe thunderstorms “will be possible” in the area and that they could bring damaging wind gusts and large hail with them.

Those storms, in combination with aggressive winds, could ignite the flash floods mentioned in the watch above.
