On Sunday, May 19th, 2024, the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company Honor Guard participated in the Fort Meade Garrison and the General George G. Meade Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony and the Thirty-Fourth Annual Massing of the Colors. Due to the pandemic, the last previous Massing of the Colors was held in 2019.

The Massing of the Colors, held in conjunction with Fort George G. Meadeโ€™s annual Memorial Day Observance, is a gathering of color guards from across the state and region. Drawing on Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Police, Fire, Veterans Organizations, Fraternal Organizations, and Guard, Reserve and Active-Duty military units, the Massing of the Colors brings together 75-100 color guards in an imposing and memorable pageantry.

Under this banner, men, and women, regardless of race, heritage, or background, fought to win our independence, end slavery, and free the world of tyranny. For millions, seeing Old Glory fly atop the Marine Corps Memorial at the Arlington National Cemetery, above an embassy, above the Capitol, over Arlington, or at thousands of outposts around the world serves as a source of pride, inspiration, and hope. The Massing of the Colors seeks to honor the flag, inspire awe, and reverence, and remind a new generation of its power as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and duty to country.
