BWI Airline Launches Flights To 2 Bustling Cities, 1 Beach Getaway

An airline launched flights from BWI Airport to two bustling cities and one beach getaway. This comes as passenger traffic spikes at BWI.

LINTHICUM, MD — An airline recently added two new flights and one returning destination from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The news comes as travelers return in droves to BWI Airport and set passenger records.

Frontier Airlines on Nov. 3 announced that it will run four flights a week from BWI to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. That nonstop service starts May 21, 2023. This will be Frontier's eighth destination offered from BWI Airport.

The budget carrier will also launch flights from BWI to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. These direct flights will happen daily. The inaugural trip is Thursday.

On Nov. 5, Frontier resumed daily nonstop service between BWI and Cancún International Airport in Mexico.

These three additions continue Frontier's big year at BWI Airport. The airline previously launched daily direct flights from BWI to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Aug. 9.

Passenger traffic continues to improve at BWI. The airport saw 18.8 million passengers in 2021. That's a 68 percent increase from 2020.

BWI clocked 32,309 departing passengers on Oct. 23. That was the airport's busiest day since December 2019.

The spike in passengers has enticed airlines to resume service from BWI. Carriers returning in 2022 include Air Canada, British Airways, Condor Airlines, Icelandair and JetBlue. The airport also welcomed budget carriers Avelo Airlines and Play this spring.

Cargo flights are on a similar upswing. BWI's cargo shipments passed 618 million pounds in 2021, setting a new annual record.
