Driver Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries After Gambrills Crash: Police

A Gambrills crash gave a driver life-threatening injuries, police said. Medics flew him to the hospital.

GAMBRILLS, MD — A driver was flown to shock trauma after rear-ending a tow truck in Gambrills, police announced Wednesday.

Officers said the driver suffered serious and life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the crash happened Monday around 10:25 a.m. on Crain Highway, also known as Maryland Route 3, near Waugh Chapel Road.

Police said a 2009 Peterbilt flatbed tow truck was stopped at a red traffic signal, waiting for the light to change.

Officers said a 2012 Honda Pilot SUV approached the stopped traffic, failed to slow down and ran into the back of the tow truck.

Authorities said the Honda left the roadway and came to a rest, trapping the driver.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department extricated the Honda driver, a press release said.

The Maryland State Police Trooper 2 medevac helicopter flew the Honda driver to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, the release said.

Officers said the tow truck driver wasn't hurt.

Neither vehicle had passengers.

Authorities are still investigating.
