FORT MEADE, MD — Meade High School’s girls basketball team must forfeit its playoff win over Old Mill High School in Monday night’s Class 4A East Region I semifinal because the Mustangs used an ineligible player. The Mustangs, who claimed two regional titles before, fell to Old Mill in 2019, 2015 and 2014 in the second round of the playoffs.

The decision puts Old Mill back into the Class 4A playoffs. The Patriots will play top-seeded Howard Wednesday.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools imposed the penalty after investigating the issue. The school reported the discrepancy to the AACPS Office of Athletics Tuesday. AACPS is not identifying the player or the reason for ineligibility. The ineligible player is also, by state law, now ineligible to participate in athletics for a period of 60 days.
