Inmate Sets Prison Fire That Injures Guards In Anne Arundel: Reports

An inmate set a prison fire in Anne Arundel County, reports said. Three guards were hurt.

JESSUP, MD β€” An inmate set a fire Friday that injured three prison guards in Anne Arundel County, multiple reports said.

The Baltimore Banner reported that the injured corrections officers are expected to survive.

No inmates were injured, The Baltimore Sun reported.

The Banner said the fire was set around 8 p.m. at the Jessup Correctional Institution, forcing the evacuation of a housing unit.

The flames were quickly extinguished, The Sun said.

"The department has transferred several individuals who were involved in this incident to other facilities," Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services spokesperson Morgan Wright told The Sun.

Lt. LaToya Gray told The Banner that the department is investigating the fire to "determine appropriate actions against those responsible for this incident."

"The department commends the fast and thorough response by all units for resolving the situation," Gray told The Banner in a statement.
