LINTHICUM, MD — JetBlue recently resumed its service from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Aiport.

The budget carrier will once again fly between BWI and Boston Logan International Airport. JetBlue temporarily paused this service in April 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leisure travel has since returned, and JetBlue plans to capitalize on the pent-up demand.

The hours vary slightly based on the day. Fares start at $59 before taxes and fees.

This is JetBlue's only direct flight available from BWI.

The inaugural flight from Boston landed at BWI last Friday.

The BWI Airport Fire & Rescue Department gave a water salute as the plane taxied to its gate. Photos of that arrival are posted here.

BWI Traffic Rebounds

Passenger traffic is continuing to improve at BWI. The airport saw 18.8 million passengers in 2021. That's a 68 percent increase from 2020.

BWI clocked 31,436 departing passengers on June 23. That was the highest mark since the pandemic began.

Cargo flights are also on the upswing. BWI's cargo shipments passed 618 million pounds in 2021, setting a new annual record.

"In 2022, passenger traffic is expected to further increase as more international and domestic routes are added," BWI spokesperson Jonathan Dean said in an unrelated airport press release. "Several major capital projects are now underway that will support airline service and enhance the travel experience for airport customers."

With travel surging, BWI reopened its Express Parking lot last month. The 1,400-space lot closed in March 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic first struck.

The spike in passengers has enticed other airlines to resume service from BWI. Carriers returning in 2022 include Air Canada, British Airways, Condor Airlines and Icelandair. The airport also welcomed budget carriers Avelo Airlines and Play this spring.
