ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — An Anne Arundel County woman recently won $50,000 in the Maryland Lottery.

"I couldn’t believe it because I had only ever won $500 dollars before, so this is by far my biggest win," the anonymous Laurel resident said in a Monday press release announcing her victory. "I have so many plans for this money."

The 70-year-old will use the prize to pay off her mortgage and fund her retirement.

The winner, who nicknamed herself the "Lucky Laurel Lady," normally plays the Multi-Match draw game. She headed to Shoppers No. 2347 in Laurel to pick up some items and Multi-Match tickets on Sept. 1.

The Anne Arundel County native watched the Multi-Match drawing that night and did not see her numbers called. She later realized she accidentally bought tickets for the Bonus Match 5 draw game instead. She checked her tickets the next day and saw that her mistake earned her the $50,000 top prize.

The woman's husband did not initially believe that she had won. She had to scan the ticket on her phone's lottery application to prove that she was not pranking him.

The Shoppers, located at 3441 Laurel Fort Meade Road, earned a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
