For Medieval Times Worker, Knights Show Means Family And Charity

Medieval Times is known for its knights show at Arundel Mills, but the performance is bigger than jousting. It's about family and charity.

HANOVER, MD — Rae Ann Cinquanto has been the marketing and sales manager of Medieval Times at Arundel Mills for nearly two decades. And it’s been a true family affair – her son has even served as a knight in the Middle Ages-themed dinner show, which runs two hours and includes a four-course feast. For 20 years, Rae Ann has helped lead the 11th-century castle at Arundel Mills, including its onsite stables and a 24/7 vet to care for the show’s 20+ non-human stars.

And the brand itself has a rich history. Medieval Times began in the late 1960s when founder Jose Montaner converted a barbecue restaurant on his family farm in Majorca, Spain, into a dinner and entertainment complex complete with staged medieval-style games, jousting and sword-fighting. Jose’s son Perico now oversees the brand, which operates 10 castles across the globe. Medieval Times even breeds its very own Andalusian horses at Chapel Creek Ranch in Texas, where they train to become a showhorse at a Medieval Times establishment and then return to the Lone Star state for a peaceful retirement on the ranch.

While Rae Ann’s tenure is impressive, her passion for the work is even more inspiring. Rae Ann serves as a Certified Tourism Ambassador for Visit Baltimore and frequently attends conferences, expos and events that highlight all the county and state has to offer. She has also played a critical role in helping maintain the entertainment venue through COVID, now returning its audience to pre-COVID attendance levels.

Through her work Rae Ann has also helped change lives. For instance, several months ago Rae Ann worked hand-in-hand with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic to help a child’s wish of becoming a knight come true.

And since 2004, Rae Ann and her team have donated show tickets to families with the Casey Cares Foundation, a Maryland-based nonprofit that provides uplifting programs for critically ill children and their families in eight states.
