'My Heart Is Tingling': New Severn Father

SEVERN, MD — It's almost Father's Day. One Severn mother had a special message for her son, who is now a parent.

Cassandra Yates of Severn shared this photo of her son, Jeffery Jr., and his son, Jeffery III. She had this special message about her son: "The bond they share is remarkable. I'm proud of the man and father he has become."

And she had a story to tell about the birth of her grandson and being a strong single mother.

"The day Jeffery "Booba" III was being born, Jeff and I were standing in the waiting area, waiting for them to prep his fiancee and as we were standing there he had this intense look on his face, and he said to me, 'Mom, I feel funny, my heart is tingling.' ... I told him it was fatherhood, the love he already has for his son. From that day I KNEW he would make a great dad."

"There's so much negativity about single moms raising young men. NO we shouldn't have to, but we do it every day and more than we know, more than society let on a lot of these young men are doing great," Yates said.
