LINTHICUM, MD — A new budget airline is coming to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Wednesday.

The airline, named Play, will offer daily nonstop service from the capital area to Europe. All Play flights stop at the airline's hub in Reykjavík, Iceland.

"Travelers around the world are hungry to venture to new destinations," Play CEO Birgir Jónsson said in a press release announcing the news on Dec. 16, 2021.

"We’re proud to expand PLAY´s service to the United States," Jónsson said. "With our reliable and affordable flights, travelers can better enjoy their destination rather than overspending on the flight to get there."

Play will soon have flights to 21 European cities, including London and Paris, along with two islands off the African coast.

The airline will use new Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft for its BWI flights. The planes are known for having 10 to 15 percent lower fuel consumption than other single-aisle aircraft, Play said.

Travelers can visit flyplay.com to see all of the airline's destinations.
