Ravens Owner Awaits Draft, His Favorite Part of Season

Steve Bisciotti, who lives in Millersville, talks about his role in building team.

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti says his favorite part of the football season happens before it starts.

“I love the building of the roster,” Bisciotti said recently. According to the BaltimoreRavens.com, he said during a conference call with personal seat licensees that he looks forward to the challenge of creating the strongest team within the salary cap, stating: “I really enjoy that because I can participate in it.

“My most enjoyment is really not during the season,” he said on the call, admitting that during the regular season, he can get “worried and nervous” the Friday before a game.

Of course, he’s eagerly awaiting the NFL draft, which starts April 30.

Bisciotti, 54, of Millersville, built his fortune in picking the right people for the job, so to speak, so it’s not surprising he would embrace the draft.

He and his cousin cofounded Aerotek, a staffing company for the aerospace and defense industry, in 1983.

The business is now a subsidiary of the Allegis Group, which is the largest private staffing agency in the world, according to Forbes.

Recently, Bisciotti gave some insight into how he picked his head coach, John Harbaugh, who has led the team to the playoffs in six of the past seven seasons.

The BaltimoreRavens.com has the story on Harbaugh’s job interview with Bisciotti, in which the businessman asked the applicant one question: If you had 100 hours in the stadium until the start of the season, how would you use it?

Bisciotti reportedly told Harbaugh he hoped the coach would spend 20 hours with General Manager Ozzie Newsome and Bisciotti, 20 hours with the coaching staff and 60 hours meeting with players individually. Of personal relationships and meeting one-on-one, Bisciotti said: “I believe it is the secret to success.”

He described Harbaugh as a ”people person” who has helped solidify the team from the inside out, into a “sum that is greater than the parts.”
