Save the Date for Annapolis Opera's Vocal Competition

Local singers may compete for cash prizes during this weekend-long event.

The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts will host the Annapolis area’s own version of “American Idol” on April 25 and 26. Annapolis Opera’s 27th annual Vocal Competition will provide a unique opportunity to hear some of the region’s finest opera stars of the future.

“Annapolis Opera’s Vocal Competition is eagerly anticipated by outstanding young singers in the mid-Atlantic region,” says Leah Solat, Chair of this year’s competition. “Finalists often go on to successful professional careers,” she added, “...Last year’s second-prize winner, Marina Costa-Jackson, won this year’s Metropolitan Opera Council National Auditions, and two of our previous winners were semifinalists.”

Audience members can spend Saturday, from 10am – 4:30pm, listening to 30 semifinalists compete for eight finalist spots and see if your picks match the judges’, then come back Sunday afternoon, at 3 p.m., to hear them compete for prizes up to $3,500. Listeners will also have the opportunity to vote their favorite for the $500 Audience Choice Award!
