Sewage Spills Into Annapolis Waterway, Forces Closure
Thousands of gallons of sewage spilled into an Annapolis waterway, a report said. Residents should avoid touching this body of water.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Annapolis waterway is temporarily closed because of a sewage spill, officials announced Monday.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health issued a public health advisory for the area of the Severn River adjacent to Chase Pond. That's located near Carrs Beach at the mouth of the Severn River.
The Capital reported that 3,000 gallons of sewage spilled.

Health department spokesperson Megan Pringle told The Capital that a blocked sanitary sewage manhole caused the spill.
The affected waters are closed to direct water contact for one week. Anybody who touches the water should wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.

The closure includes Chase Pond and a small waterway that leads to the Severn River, Pringle told The Capital.
Signs are posted to warn of the closure.
