SuperShuttle Permanently Halts Service To And From BWI Airport

HANOVER, MD — Maryland travelers are both peeved and worried that the SuperShuttle transportation service has ceased operations in Baltimore right before the huge holiday traveling season. Anyone with reservations on the SuperShuttle to and from Baltimore-Washington International Airport now will have to find another ride. SuperShuttle customers whose reservations have been canceled will receive a full refund within seven to 10 business days, the company said in an email sent to customers.

The company confirmed in its email that it has shut down service in Baltimore effective Nov. 15. The move is one of several closures right before the holiday travel season accelerates. Service also ended in Minneapolis Nov. 15 and in Dallas Nov. 16. SuperShuttle vans will stop serving Sacramento International Airport on Dec. 2.

The Los Angeles Times recently reported that SuperShuttle also suspended operations at Los Angeles International Airport and other California sites because it is out of compliance with state insurance requirements.

"It's a shift in the marketplace. Market demand has shifted in recent years," the company email stated.

While SuperShuttle has been around for 36 years, it does have increasingly successful competitors including Uber and Lyft. According to the Baltimore Business Journal, SuperShuttle still offers service to and from Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia and Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
