Teacher Of The Year Finalists Announced In Anne Arundel County

The Teacher of the Year finalists were announced in Anne Arundel County. They teach special education, music and math.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD - The five finalists for 2024 Anne Arundel County Public Schools Teacher of the Year were announced Thursday.

AACPS said the finalists are:

  • Patrick Alexander, instrumental music, Piney Orchard Elementary School
  • Jesse Bragg, math, Meade Middle School
  • Amy Chitwood, special education, Ridgeway Elementary School
  • Elizabeth Heist, music, Lake Shore Elementary School
  • Kellie Skinner, special education, Annapolis High School

Superintendent Mark Bedell and other officials surprised each finalist with a Thursday visit to share the good news.

The two finalists for Anne Arundel County Independent Schools Teacher of the Year are:

  • Clinton Kittrell, science, The Summit School
  • Tiffany Wenck, math, St. Paul’s Lutheran School

The winners, finalists, semifinalists and nominees will be among 69 Anne Arundel County teachers honored at the 38th Annual Excellence in Education Awards. That event is on May 3 at The Hall @ Live! Arundel Mills in Hanover.

The county Teacher of the Year winner will go on to represent AACPS in the Maryland Teacher of the Year contest.

The statewide Teacher of the Year winner has been from AACPS in three of the past six years.

Mary Kay Connerton of Annapolis High School (2023), Teresa Beilstein of South Shore Elementary School (2020) and Josh Carroll of South River High School (2018) all won statewide Teacher of the Year as well.
