White was one of only two Credit Union Volunteers recognized by NAFCU in its 2022 Annual Awards Competition, which honors credit union professionals and volunteers for excellence and achievement in the industry. Award winners will be recognized during NAFCU’s Annual Congressional Caucus in September.

White has served on Tower’s Board for almost 20 years and brings to the credit union over four decades of experience in finance and accounting. He has served on Tower’s Supervisory, Executive Compensation, Budget, Planning, Nominating, and Educating/Training Committees.

“I was thrilled to hear that Arland won Volunteer of the Year and the recognition is well-deserved,” said Rick Stafford, Tower’s President and CEO. “Over the past two decades, Arland’s various positions and duties at Tower have provided a unique perspective on the changes that have taken place in the financial industry—and at Tower—and the impact those changes have on our members.”

White recently retired from the U.S. Department of Defense after a distinguished 40-year career. In addition to serving as Chairman of Tower’s Board, he serves on the volunteer Board of Directors for the TowerCares Foundation, Tower’s philanthropic arm.

“Arland has a heart for giving back to the communities that TowerCares serves, especially when it comes to supporting our military heroes, Veterans, DoD employees, and children in need,” said Tom Poe, TowerCares Foundation Treasurer.

Under White’s leadership, Tower was ranked as Maryland’s #1 Best-in-State Credit Union for 2021 and 2022 by Forbes Magazine, and was only one of five credit unions to make the Forbes list in 2020.

“Arland always keeps top of mind a focus on maximizing member value, providing superior service and consistently meeting our members’ financial needs,” said Stafford. “He is known for being approachable, willing to listen and open to new ways of doing things. We are extremely thankful for his leadership and expertise, and for his nearly 20 years of dedication and service to Tower and our members.”
