NOTTINGHAM, MD — A temporary pet adoption center opened this month in The Avenue at White Marsh for a month-long blitz.

The space will host pet adoption events each weekend in August to support a statewide push for 3,000 adoptions this month.

The campaign, dubbed Maryland 3,000, is organized by the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance. Also known as BAWA, the group is comprised of Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), Baltimore County Animal Services, the Baltimore Humane Society and the Maryland SPCA.

The Avenue provided 2,600 square feet of space to BAWA for its August efforts. The adoption center, located at 8157 Honeygo Blvd. Suite G, is sandwiched between Men's Wearhouse and The Local.

The Avenue also donated $500 each to BARCS Animal Shelter, the Maryland SPCA, the Baltimore Humane Society and Friends of Baltimore County Dogs.

"The number of animals currently in need of adoption can seem overwhelming," The Avenue said on its adoption center website. "Providing them with food, water, and medical care; protection from the elements; relief from suffering; and a caring human presence is incredibly important. The good news is that WE have the power to create an environment where the community chooses shelter pets first!"

Thirty-eight pets were adopted at The Avenue during the first weekend. There are still three more weekends to find a furry friend. Adoption fees are waived.

These are the remaining adoption events at The Avenue:
