Driver of Stolen Car Runs Down Police Officer: Report

A man driving a stolen Subaru Outback hit a patrol officer and fled into Washington, D.C., early Thursday, PG County Police say.

The driver of a reportedly stolen car ran down a Prince George’s County Police officer early Thursday, then fled the scene, officials said.

A search has been under way for the suspect since the confrontation about 1:15 a.m. in Oxon Hill. The suspect’s car is described as a gold 2008 Subaru Outback. It has DC tags DT2586.

The officer, who was in a marked police cruiser, tried to stop a stolen car in a gas station parking lot in the 4400 block of Wheeler Road. As the officer walked toward the car, the suspect accelerated, the car hit the officer and flipped him onto the hood.

The officer suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.

Police say the suspect vehicle fled was last seen heading into Washington, D.C.

The injured officer is a Gold Medal of Valor Award Winner stemming from an incident on Branch Avenue in 2014 involving the murder of a three-year-old girl at the hands of her father.
