Name Released of Man Shot by Deputies in Landover

Prince George's County authorities say the Landover man was armed with knives and rammed sheriff's cars.

Authorities have released the name of a knife-wielding man who was shot and killed Sunday after ramming his vehicle into two Prince George’s County Sheriff’s cars in Landover.

The deceased suspect is Lionel Lorenzo Young, 34, of the 1800 block of Belle Haven Drive in Landover, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department, which is investigating the fatality.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 6200 block of Central Avenue about 9 p.m. Sunday for a domestic dispute, with Young reportedly armed with a knife. Deputies tried to stop Young, but he fled at a high rate of speed, authorities said.

Their pursuit ended in the 900 block of Nalley Road, in the parking lot of Cora L. Rice Elementary School, according to ABC7.

Investigators say Young intentionally struck two sheriff’s vehicles, at which time the two deputies fired at the vehicle, fatally striking Young. Two knives were recovered from the scene.

The Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an administrative investigation into the shooting. The PGSO will provide information about the identity of the involved deputies and their duty status.
