MARYLAND — After 3 inches of rain fell in central Maryland Sunday night, another round of storms is predicted for Monday afternoon, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

By late Monday night, the clouds should clear, with rain chances ending by 2 a.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. A hazardous weather outlook is in place for the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., region with strong thunderstorms possible across the waters, particularly the southern waters, which may require special marine warnings.

As the remnants of former hurricane Ernesto continue on a path to the north-northeast following landfall on Bermuda early Saturday morning, seas and surf will remain rough along the coast from the Delmarva Peninsula to Maine through Monday, Accuweather.com said.

The hazardous weather outlook is for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.

Officials reported temporary flooding in Historic Ellicott City Sunday night, but no damage to businesses has been reported so far. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for northeastern Howard County around 9:48 p.m. Aug. 18. Officials reported about 3 inches of rainfall in Ellicott City in a short period of time.

The storms will usher in a few days of drier, cooler air, with less humidity. Highs will creep close to 90 degrees again just in time for the weekend.

Here's the latest forecast for Maryland from the National Weather Service:

Monday Afternoon: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. West wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11pm, then isolated showers between 11pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 66. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 79. Northwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. North wind 6 to 8 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 78. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 62.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 82.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 65.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 88.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 70.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 90.
