Glenelg Country School Hosts Instagram Exhibit by Alumnus

Reception for Award-winning Photojournalist Tenney Mason is Nov. 9

Glenelg Country School will host an exhibit of photography by alumnus Tenney Mason Nov. 1-Dec. 8 in the Middle School Art Gallery. “Instavision: A Gallery of Instagram Images” includes 75 framed 8x8 inch prints by the award-winning photographer. He was a sixth grade student at Glenelg Country School when it first opened in 1954. His family was one of the school’s five founding families.

Mason spent most of his working career as a writer, editor, photojournalist, and chief of photography for local news outlets in the Baltimore/Washington corridor, retiring as Director of Photography for Patuxent Publishing Co., the community newspaper group that includes the Howard County Times. After leaving publishing, Mason began to explore new platforms, like Instagram, for his photography.

Because of his journalistic background, Mason’s style includes a wide variety of subjects, but he considers street photography to be his major strength. Mason seeks to capture the elusive decisive moment and/or detail that sheds a unique light on an individual or situation. “This style lends itself to the Instagram format,” Mason explains. “This show includes many such images. They are all square, they are not large, and they are intended to create an Instagram experience on a gallery wall.”
