Bedford Memorial Service Planned for Local Lightning Strike Victim

Marianne Mellnick was one of two people killed after a lightning strike at an Ipswich beach earlier this month.

Memorial services have been set for a Concord woman who died after being struck by lightning at an Ipswich beach earlier this month.

Marianne Mellnick died Saturday at Mass. General Hospital. She was 69.

Her friend, Marguerite Tomany, 61, of North Grosvenor Dale, Conn., was also killed after they were struck while walking near Crane Beach on Sept. 6.

Mellnick was remembered as a loving grandmother, volunteer, and world traveler, according to her obituary.

“She will live on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to have known her,” her obituary reads.

Mellnick lived in Concord for 41 years and worked in finance at companies like Sullivan Bille, KPMG, and Circor International.

She leaves behind two sons.

A public funeral will be held Friday in Bedford at St. Michael Church’s at 10 a.m. The burial will be private.
