Evelyn M. Stickney, 92, Former Bedford Resident

For more than 36 years she was the secretary and administrative assistant at the Bedford Free Public Library.

BEDFORD, MA - Evelyn Mae (Bollman) Stickney, of Woburn, formerly of Bedford, died on Feb. 2, 2016.

She was the daughter of George Leon and Elsie Evelyn (Nutting) Bollman, born on November 23, 1923 in Newburyport, MA. Mrs. Stickney graduated from Newburyport High School in 1941 and later attended Wellesley College and Chandler Secretarial School in Boston.

She worked at the Christian Science Publishing Company in Boston. Later she helped set up the school libraries in Lincoln, MA, the Davis School and John Glenn Junior High in Bedford. For more than 36 years she was the secretary and administrative assistant at the Bedford Free Public Library.

In 1943 she married Edward Caleb Stickney, son of George Carver Stickney and Mildred Beatrice (Sawyer) Stickney of Newburyport, MA. Their son, Kent George Stickney, was born August 17, 1957 and died on October 20, 1995 when killed by a drunk driver.

Evelyn was an avid bowler, tennis player and walker.

She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of the First Settlers of Old Newbury and a life member of the Bedford Historical Society.

For more than 50 years the Stickney’s researched the bells cast by Paul Revere and his sons. They were considered the world authorities on the subject and published a booklet listing the Revere bells still in existence. For 30 years they lectured the subject throughout New England.

Visiting hours will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Sunday, Feb. 7 from 1-3 p.m. with a service to follow at the funeral home.
