Fees On Some Bulk Items To Go Into Effect On January 4, 2021 In Bedford

The Bedford Select Board approved the fees last March but delayed implementation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Residents disposing of some bulk items and appliances will be required to pay a fee to cover the costs of disposal starting with the January 4, 2021 collection.

The Bedford Select Board approved the fees last March but delayed implementation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fees will apply to appliances with Freon like refrigerators and air conditioners; other appliances like stoves, dryers, and microwaves; small appliances such as microwaves, printers, vacuums, and other electronic waste. Also, large metal items like bicycles, lawn mowers, snow blowers, grills and exercise equipment will require a fee. The fees for televisions and monitors will be based on the size of the screen.

Residents must call Republic Services Customer Service (800-442-9006) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday to schedule a pick-up the following week. Bulk Waste is collected on Mondays. Appliances, televisions/monitors, and electronics are collected on Wednesdays. Residents will have to provide a credit card number when scheduling a pick-up. This process takes affect for pick-ups on January 4 and thereafter.

There are no fees for other bulk items such as household furniture (home, office and patio furniture), carpets and rugs (rolled in 4-foot lengths, tied/taped securely), lamps, car seats, suitcases, rigid plastic items, toys, etc.
