MCC Only Community College at Boston Independent Film Festival

MCC was one of 12 colleges to compete in this year's Boston Independent Film Festival

Middlesex Community College was one of 12 colleges to compete in this year’s Boston Independent Film Festival (IFF) held on April 26 to May 3. The only community college representative for the event, Middlesex had five students in MCC’s Department of Communication, Art and Design submit their film “Sunday” for consideration.

The Middlesex students were Maddie Balch, Ethan Liang, Dannie Schaffer, Lauren Yee and Michael Tandilyan. Tandilyan, of Wilmington, was the student editor on the film.

“It was a nice surprise that it was selected,” Tandilyan said. “Seeing my name on the big screen was a fun experience.”

On the IFF Boston website, the short film is described as: “An unhappy middle-aged woman gets too drunk while out to dinner with her emotionally-distant husband and accidentally reveals her disorganized and insecure feelings about their marriage and herself.”

After showing their short film, the students had the opportunity to go up on stage and talk about their work process and collaboration.

“Participating in the Boston Independent Film Festival allowed our film production students to compete against schools like Emerson, Boston University and Fitchburg State, and I cannot say enough how proud I am that the Middlesex entry absolutely stood up to the competition,” said Matthew Olson, MCC’s Dean of Liberal Arts. “What’s more, our students were able to network with industry professionals as well as other students, making valuable personal and professional connections.”
