Afternoon Thunderstorms Could Bring MA Hail And Damaging Winds

Thunderstorms Monday afternoon will set the stage for a much cooler week than the weekend - before a potential surprise warm-up on Saturday.

BOSTON — Time to kiss that taste of summer goodbye and bring back the seasonably cooler temps after some afternoon storms are expected to roll through the Bay State Monday.

Record-high temperatures were met in Boston Saturday, hitting 86 degrees and tying with the record set for May 14 in 1879.

A coastal flood advisory will be starting around 9 p.m. Monday night for Massachusetts residents who live near the water. High astronomical tides may result in less than one foot of flooding above ground level, mainly in the most vulnerable low-lying areas, according to an alert from AccuWeather.

However, only some of the more vulnerable shore roads may experience some nuisance-type flooding around the time of high tide tonight.

It will start to feel cooler as the storms roll in Monday afternoon, before bringing in spring-like temperatures in the upper 60s for the rest of the week. Fog will continue to greet most along the south coast of New England with visibility below a quarter-mile through the mid-morning.

Monday

Monday will start off nice, in the mid to upper 70s before thunderstorms in the afternoon bring in some potentially damaging gusts and hail. A coastal flood warning is in effect from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. and chance of precipitation is 55 percent.

Tuesday

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, and a little windy with a high near 74. By Tuesday night it will be mostly clear, with a low around 52.

Wednesday

Wednesday will be sunny, with a high near 71. By Wednesday night it will be partly cloudy, with a low around 50. Winds will be mostly died down.

Thursday

Thursday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 69. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 53.

Friday

Friday will start to feel a bit warm again, as it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Friday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 60.

Saturday

Get ready for some heat again as this Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Saturday night however brings in a chance of showers. It should be mostly cloudy with a low around 63 and a chance of precipitation at 30 percent.
