Boston — On October 7, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., the much-anticipated BIG in Boston celebration hosted by WBZ-TV/CBS Boston News Anchor, Lisa Hughes, will mark Big Sister Boston’s 70th anniversary. The event will look back at the Big and Little Sisters, many now women with families and careers, whom the organization has served and partnered with since its inception in 1951. The event will also shine a spotlight on the 70 honorees who have ensured the mission of Big Sister Boston has remained laser-focused on the girls they serve.

From loving mothers, excelling students, remarkable C-suite professionals, revered artists and entrepreneurs, the alumnae of Big Sister Boston continues to leave their mark in every corner of our world. The theme of the evening, “Who’s That Girl?,” foreshadows a dramatic reveal about the positive impact the organization’s programs continue to have in many, often unexpected, places.

“We are excited to celebrate Big Sister Boston’s 70-year legacy and are looking forward to showcasing what the future holds for Big Sister,” said Big Sister President and CEO, Deborah Re. “We are immensely proud and humbled to have played an important role in so many young lives. And now, we stand ready to meet the challenges today’s girls face in the emerging post-pandemic world.”

The evening will feature the world premiere of “Keeper,” a poem composed and recited by award-winning writer, performer, educator, author and Boston’s poet laureate, Porsha Olayiwola, in honor of Big Sister Boston’s 70th anniversary.

“Having been a part of Big Sister Boston for 50 years—when I was a Big Sister in college—I am honored to be a key part of this celebration that will recognize all facets of the Big Sister Boston community,” said Big in Boston co-chair, Reverend Gloria White-Hammond, MD, pastor at Bethel AME in Jamaica Plain.
