Boston Ranked 3rd Most Expensive City In America

October's national index shows the median 1-bedroom rent in the U.S. has risen by 11.8 percent since March 2020 according to a new study.

BOSTON — We all know Boston is getting ridiculously expensive to live in, so does that make it harder to imagine that it has been ranked the third most expensive city in the United States?

Over the last few months, home prices skyrocketed during the pandemic and rent hit an all-time high, according to a new national rent report from Zumper.

Since March 2020, the median one-bedroom rent is up 11.8 percent, while two-beds are up 14.3 percent, the study reads.

As many began to migrate from the office to work from home, people fled the cities to towns to avoid the lockdowns, creating one of the largest waves of domestic migration to date.

Big cities on the West Coast have seen relatively steady rent costs throughout 2021, even though rent across the country has gotten significantly higher, which may have caused San Fransisco to pop in at number two instead of the most expensive city in the country.

New York, NY landed the top spot as the most expensive city in the country, according to the study.
