BOSTON — At the end of January, Southie will lose a staple bar known for its industrial-styled design and rooftop bar.

Popular brunch spot and gastropub, Coppersmith will close its doors on Sunday, Jan. 16, after six years in South Boston.

"We've been fortunate to remain open for much of these past two years, which was unexpected and a blessing," Coppersmith's general manager Sheila Senat said in a news release. "It gave us the opportunity to spend a couple more trips around the sun with our amazing guests, who have become like family, and for our beloved team to retain employment during an incredibly difficult time in the hospitality industry. It is bittersweet to finally say goodbye, but the happy memories of Coppersmith will live on for so many."

In 2019, there was speculation that the bar would be demolished to make way for a life sciences building, according to Boston Restaurant Talk, but after surviving two years in the pandemic, no one thought the bar would shut down.

Until its closure, Coppersmith will remain open Wednesday-Sunday.
