Gary LaPierre, Longtime WBZ NewsRadio Voice, Dies At 76

LaPierre, the legendary local news figure, enjoyed a long career as a familiar voice.

Longtime Boston news voice Gary LaPierre died Monday, WBZ announced. He was 76.

LaPierre was a recognizable voice during the his 40-year career at WBZ NewsRadio 1030. He started his career in the WBZ newsroom and become a legendary figure in local news radio.

LaPierre retired from full-time work in 2006. He was later inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

"I am deeply saddened by this news," WBZ Director of Operations Bill Flaherty said on the company's website. "If you were looking to work hard and also have lots of fun, Gary was the guy you need to be with. My heart goes out to his wife Peg and his family."
