Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS), a tuition-free public charter school that currently services 500 students in grades 5-12, has announced that Ana Poucochinho has been named as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Poucochinho is a businesswoman and health professional with years of experience in Boston, Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. She is currently the Director of Clinical Operations, Primary Care for the Southcoast Physicians Group. Poucochinho is a parent of two GLCPS alumni and has been a strong supporter of the school for many years. She is a firm believer in the power of education. A registered nurse, she has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing as well as a Master's degree in healthcare administration, along with numerous other certifications. She is also involved in several professional and community organizations.

As public agents authorized by the state, the board of trustees of a charter school holds the school's charter as it is granted by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and is responsible for governing the school. The board of trustees defines the mission of the school and develops school policies, changing them when appropriate. The board of trustees hires qualified personnel to manage the school's day-to-day operations, holds them accountable for meeting established goals, and formulates a long-range plan and charter school accountability plan that will ensure the school's continued stability.

In addition to its many other responsibilities, the board must ensure that the school is complying with all of the state and federal laws that apply to the school and ensure that the school is operating in accordance with its charter and with any approved amendments to its charter. Finally, the board itself must operate in accordance with Massachusetts laws and regulations.

“We welcome Ana to our board and welcome her experience, insight, knowledge and leadership,” said Dr. Stephen Furtado, Executive Director of GLCPS. “Ana brings a unique perspective as a parent of two of our alumni and with her tremendous commitment to education.”
