The research team at VerizonSpecials, an authorized online retailer of Verizon, set out to find exactly how much leisure time Americans spend on their computers per day. The team used data from the American Time Use Survey from 2013 to 2017 to determine the average number of hours of leisure time spent on computers for 48 states.

The ATU Survey included time spent downloading files, using social media, browsing the web and other leisure activities, but excluded online shopping, banking and use for work.

Alaska’s daily computer use comes out to a total of 1,010 hours a year, or 42 days, enough time to fly to the moon and back seven times, according to the study.

The five states with the least leisure time spent on the computer per day were:

45. Vermont: 0:56:24
44. North Dakota: 1:07:12
43. Idaho: 1:10:12

The report also found that Americans overall spend an average of 90 minutes on the computer for leisure purposes a day — meaning that if they worked a national-minimum-wage job for the same amount of time, they would have earned $3,969.38 a year.
