MA Breaks High Temp Record - When Will The Heatwave End?

Boston broke some records Sunday, and potential storms Monday are expected to raise humidity. Here's when we'll finally see some relief.

With all the air conditioners running, the heatwave has also been linked to power outages that hit parts of Boston Sunday.

BOSTON — For the first time in over a year, Boston reached 100 degrees Sunday, breaking the previous record of 98 set back in 1933 - the last time Boston hit 100 was June 30, 2021.

Ahead of the expected added heat Monday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu extended the heat emergency, bringing the Bay State to its seventh consecutive heatwave day.

Luckily, a front is nearing later Monday that could bring some much-needed relief from the heat, according to the National Weather Service. However, that front brings the threat of potentially strong storms coupled with intense humidity.

The added humidity could leave parts of Massachusetts feeling like it's 98 and for that reason, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 5 p.m. The NWS says portions of eastern and southeastern Massachusetts are expected to have heat index values of 95 to 98 degrees until that front rolls in by 5 p.m.

With all the air conditioners running, the heatwave has also been linked to power outages that hit parts of Boston Sunday. Eversource reported over 1,700 customers in Dorchester lost power Sunday afternoon and said they restored power to over 19,000 others before Sunday night.
