Massachusetts Gas Prices Reach Record High, AAA Says

Gasoline prices in the Bay State are the highest they've been since 2008, averaging at about $4.16 a gallon, according to AAA.

BOSTON — Gasoline prices in Massachusetts have hit a record-breaking high, the first time since 2008, the American Automobile Association said Monday.

Gas prices are the highest they've been since the recession of 2008, averaging at about $4.16 a gallon Monday, surpassing 2008's record of $4.092 overnight, AAA said.

Boston gas prices sit anywhere between $4.10 a gallon to $4.40 a gallon for the cheap stuff.

The weekend alone saw the highest and fastest jump in numbers rising almost 25 cents per gallon in just three days, with Saturday's average coming in at $3.95 a gallon. Mid-grade gas is averaging around $4.38, with $4.61 for premium and $4.73 for diesel across Massachusetts.

On Sunday, California had the highest average price per gallon among the U.S., coming in at $5.29, while Missouri had the lowest, around $3.60.

The sudden rise in gasoline prices coincides with the current situation in Ukraine caused by the ongoing Russian invasion.
