Massachusetts Solider Dies in Iraq; Dept. of Defense Investigating

21-year-old Pfc. Brian. P. Odiorne has died from a non-combat-related incident.

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday morning it is investigating the death of a 21-year-old soldier from Massachusetts who died Monday in Iraq.

Pfc. Brian P. Odiorne, of Ware, died in Al Anbar Province from a non-combat-related incident. Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating.

Odiorne was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, since 2016. He entered the service in October 2015 as a cannon crewmember.

He was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve at the time of his death.

Odiorne was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Medal. He will be posthumously awarded the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon.
