Ask A Foodie: Which Restaurants Have The Best Sushi In Boston?

"Boston Foodies" blogger Tiffany Lopinsky answers some of your most frequently asked questions about where to eat in the city.

Today I’m answering some of the most frequently asked questions I get on my blog, on Instagram, and all the other ways people can reach me these days. I’m talking best restaurants for a romantic dinner, great brunch spots to bring visitors, the prettiest Boston restaurants and more!

Q: Where’s the best place to go for pizza in Boston?

A: It really depends on what you like. If you’re a fan of the thick crusted, usually rectangular Sicilian-style pizza, my favorite is Pinocchio’s in Harvard Square. At the moment I’m also loving the Rabottini’s Pizza pop-up in Allston.

For a thinner pizza, I love Posto in Davis Square and Area Four, which has locations in the South End and in Kendall Square.

Q: What are your favorite romantic restaurants to celebrate an anniversary?

A: Sorellina is my go-to recommendation for those looking for a romantic celebration restaurant. Its interior is elegant, the service is impeccable and the food is delicious. Recently, I’ve also been recommending Meritage, another place with great food, excellent service and one of the best dinner views in the city.

Q: What are some of the first restaurants that come to mind when you think of places with a great atmosphere?

A: For this it really depends on what you like. But if we’re talking something fun and high-energy, the first spots that come to mind at Citrus & Salt, Committee and Tiger Mama.

Q: What is the prettiest restaurant in Boston?

A: There are so many restaurants in Boston with unbelievably impressive interiors. Two of my favorites are Terra at Eataly in the Back Bay, and Pammy’s in Cambridge.

Q: What are your favorite budget-friendly spots?

A: There are a lot of reasonably-priced casual spots in Boston where you can grab a cheap lunch. One of my favorites is Gene’s Chinese Flatbread Cafe, where you can get a bowl of hand pulled noodles for just six dollars.

At My Thai Vegan, which was my go-to lunch spot when I worked in Downtown Crossing, you can get one of their lunch specials for $7.95. It includes an entrée, a soup, a cup of tea and either a fried spring roll or two dumplings.

You can also always grab a slice of pizza at Galleria Umberto in the North End for just $1.85.

Q: What is a good brunch spot to bring guests from out of town?

A: Visitors usually want a taste of Boston’s best seafood if they’re just in town for the weekend. So I love taking my guests from out of town to Row 34 or Island Creek Oyster Bar. They’re sibling restaurants and both of them serve a great selection of classic seafood dishes and creative brunch items.

Q: What are the best places in Boston for sushi?

A: Cafe Sushi in Harvard Square is my personal favorite and definitely a beloved spot for many. In college my Japanese studies professor who spent a lot of time in Japan said that it was the most authentic sushi spot in Boston. It also has really reasonable prices.

For take out, I love Genki Ya (with locations in Brookline, Cambridge, Downtown and Dedham) and Ebi Sushi in Somerville.

UNI is also a favorite for their creative dishes and a wonderful experience.

Q: What’s your favorite restaurant?

A: This is definitely my most frequently-asked question, and it's the hardest one to answer. Mostly I love trying new places, but I do have a few restaurants that I consider my favorites:

Sarma is Somerville is definitely at the top of my list — I wish I could have their Brussels sprouts every night. A few other favorites include Alden & Harlow in Harvard Square, Cultivar in Downtown Crossing and Puritan & Company in Inman Square.
