St. Patrick’s Day 2024 In Massachusetts: When Big Parades Happen

MASSACHUSETTS — With the snow receding and a little green starting to reappear, it's time to start planning for the greenest holiday of the year.

St. Patrick's Day 2024 falls on March 17, fittingly a Sunday. The South Boston St. Patrick’s Day/Evacuation Day Parade takes place that day, but there's plenty more going on this year across Massachusetts and the region. Here's a look at some of the biggest festivities in 2024:

Cape Cod

The relatively young (at 18, still too young to drink) Cape Cod St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held March 9 in Yarmouth.

Worcester

The Worcester County St. Patrick's Day parade takes over Worcester's Park Avenue on March 10 to avoid a brawl with Southie.

Scituate

The town's annual St. Patrick's Day parade features one thing others don't: a polar plunge into the Atlantic Ocean at the end. Scituate is known as the "Irish Riviera" for its large population of Irish Americans.

Holyoke

Not to be outdone by the Hub, Holyoke boasts that its St. Patrick's Day parade is the "premier" one in the entire Northeast. The parade follows a popular road race.

Boston

The big one in South Boston takes place March 17 with retired Navy commander Jerry Wheeler as the grand marshal this year.

Outside MA

If you want to travel a little bit, you'll find big St. Patrick's Day parades in Manchester, NH, and Newport, RI, and Providence. The Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day parade is the largest single-day event in all of Connecticut, according to organizers.
