Warm Start To The Week In MA, Extreme Heat To Follow

Massachusetts is gearing up for a hot week amid high levels of humidity and a severe drought that continues to cover most of New England.

With most of the state still under a severe drought, that trend looks like it is going to continue as most of us won't see rain until at least Friday night.

BOSTON — After a little break from the heat this past weekend, Massachusetts is expected to get whacked with yet another hot week.

Between the heat and humidity, we're looking at a scorcher mid-week as temps soar into the mid to upper 90s - with the potential to reach about 100 degrees in parts of the state Thursday, according to AccuWeather.

With most of the state still under a severe drought, that trend looks like it is going to continue as most of us won't see rain until at least Friday night.

Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Beth Card declared a Level 3-Critical Drought in the Northeast and Central Regions of the state last month, explaining that 43 percent of the state is under severe drought and the rest of the state is in a moderate drought.

The mugginess is likely to linger as most of us reach mid-90s Tuesday afternoon. A cold front is on the way and should hit a good chunk of the Bay State by Tuesday night, which should provide a little relief - for now. But that cold front should only hit a few areas, and scattered showers will likely be brief.
