WINTHROP, MA — A daylong search for a missing teenage girl came to an end when the 14-year-old was found safe Tuesday night. Mackenzie McGrath was found unharmed, according to Winthrop Police Chief Terence Delehanty.

McGrath was last seen at her Sagamore Avenue home around 4 a.m. Tuesday, Delehanty said. WHDH reported she was found by a K-9 unit at a home two doors down. Until then, a search by several agencies, including the Coast Guard checking the water off the small coastal city, had proved fruitless.

Police said Tuesday morning they did not believe McGrath was abducted but said she may be in danger.

State and local police and fire departments were assisted by the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, the Coast Guard and the Winthrop Harbormaster. The Coast Guard searched for a "possible person in the water off Winthrop," which is standard protocol when a missing person is reported there.
