Chain-Reaction North Shore Crash Kills 1, 2 Flee In Police K-9 Chase

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said one person was killed and another was Medflighted to a Boston hospital Friday afternoon.

DANVERS, MA — One person was killed late Friday afternoon in a Route 95 crash that involved three vehicles, a Medflight to a Boston hospital and a police K-9 search to find two people in one of the vehicles.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said the chain reaction crash occurred near Exit 70 in the Danvers/Topsfield stretch on Route 95 at about 4:20 p.m. on Friday.

The investigation determined that the first vehicle ended up in the breakdown lane and the second vehicle collided with the third vehicle traveling behind it.

Two passengers were ejected from the third vehicle with one ending up in the northbound lane and suffering fatal injuries. The second passenger of that vehicle was flown to a Boston hospital for treatment.

Two other passengers from the third vehicle were treated at local hospitals.

State Police said two people in the first vehicle took off into the nearby woods but that one of them was detained and the search continued for the second with the help of a State Police Air Wing and K-9 unit Friday night.
