Danvers High Awarded $150K MA Skills Capital Grant

DANVERS, MA — Danvers High School will use $150,000 in state grant funding to upgrade technology and instructional lab spaces, expand career programs for young people and adults and increase capacity in workforce training programs.

The funding was part of the state Skills Capital Grant program. Danvers High was one of 65 high schools, colleges and other educational institutions to receive the funding.

Danvers High Principal Adam Federico said the money will be used to purchase equipment to expand its manufacturing and design courses and add a more robust health care and nursing pathway. The school will also create a third engineering, manufacturing and design lab.

"This grant will allow us to enhance programs that have become more popular with students in recent years," Superintendent of Schools Dan Bauer said. "We appreciate the partnership with the state and their support of this area of study."

The Skills Capital Grants are awarded by the state's Workforce Skills Cabinet, which brings together the secretariats of Education, Labor and Workforce Development, Economic Development, and Health and Human Services. The competitive grants are awarded to educational institutions that demonstrate partnerships with local businesses, as well as align curriculum and credentials with industry demand to maximize hiring opportunities.

"We want to ensure that what students learn in school helps them get where they want to go, while also meeting our workforce needs," Gov. Maura Healey said. "These Skills Capital Grants will ensure our students and adult learners have access to innovative technology, equipment, and spaces to gain the skills they need to prepare them for successful careers in high-demand industries."
