Danvers Imposes Extreme Water Restrictions Effective Immediately

DANVERS, MA — All automated outdoor water use is prohibited in Danvers effective immediately as the town moves to a Level 5 water restriction because of low flow in the Ipswich River.

The prohibitions, which come less than two weeks after the town moved to a Level 3 restriction, only allow hand-held hoses and watering cans to water outdoor lawns and gardens from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily.

Use of sprinklers and irrigation systems is not permitted, as well as swimming pool filling and washing of cars.

Violations of Level 5 water restrictions result in a warning letter for the first offense and a $300 fine for subsequent violations.

"We appreciate the cooperation of all residents during this period," town officials said.

Level 5 water restrictions are the second-highest level the town can impose with a potential Level 6 restrictions preventing all outdoor water use until further notice.
