Danvers Police To Host First D.A.R.E. 5K Road Race

The race and walk to benefit the department's Drug Abuse Resistance Education program is set for June 15.

DANVERS, MA — The Danvers Police Department is hosting its first 5K road race to benefit its Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in June.

The race will be held on June 15 at Danvers High School with residents invited to run, walk, sponsor the event or make a donation to the program.

D.A.R.E. is a prevention program that teaches students positive ways to say no to drugs and violence. It is a partnership between the Danvers Police Department, business and community leaders, parents and teachers who work together to help children deal with the pressures and influences that promote drug abuse and violence.

The D.A.R.E. curriculum focuses on teaching life skills such as dealing with peer pressure, bullying, managing stress, developing problem solving skills and building self-esteem. The funds allow Danvers police to greatly enhance the ability to provide the D.A.R.E. program. as well as other community events which support health interactions between our youths and police officers.

All participants will receive a race T-shirt with the 5K winner earning a $200 cash prize. The kids division winner will get a gift card to Cherry Hill.
