Essex County Sheriff Imposter Scam Warning Issued

The Essex County Sheriff's Office said imposters are purporting to be a sheriff's deputy and demanding payments for outstanding warrants.

DANVERS, MA — North Shore residents are being warned about the latest phone scam involving people purporting to be deputies in the Essex County Sheriff's Department and demanding money.

The Department said the scammers demand money to settle outstanding court warrants that often do not exist. Even if they do, the Essex County Sheriff's Department said its representatives will never call anyone and ask for money over the phone.

"If you get one of these calls, please hang up," the Sheriff's Department said. "This is a scam. We never ask for money.
