Nancy L. Carey

August 8, 1944 - October 18, 2021

Danvers - Nancy Carey, a sister, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher – passed away peacefully and gracefully, on October 18, 2021 at the age of 77, following several health challenges. In her final days and hours, she was surrounded by friends and family, who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Nancy grew up in Peabody, MA, and later made her permanent home in nearby Danvers. Nancy earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education at Salem State College, and 25 years later went back to school to complete a Master’s degree in Education at Cambridge College. Throughout her career as a teacher and tutor, Nancy touched numerous lives, teaching Grades 4-8 in Beverly, Gloucester, Danvers, and finishing up her career when she retired from Collins Middle School in Salem.

Nancy was a strong, resourceful, and generous woman, raising a beautiful family on her own. She is survived by her son Erik Mysliwy of Andover, MA (and his wife Sarah), and her son Brian Mysliwy of Tonawanda, NY (and his wife Jennifer). When her family grew, she treasured being “Grammy Carey” to her 8 grandchildren: Jackie, Jackson, Mason, Matthew, Logan, Simon, Amelia, and Finley. Nancy is also survived by her sister, Catherine M. Carey of Los Angeles, CA (and her husband Gary P. Townsend); by her brother-in-law, Dr. David Davis of Andover MA; and her cousin Kenneth Wilson of Livermore, CA (and his wife Sharon).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine (Lane) Carey and A. Kenneth Carey of Peabody, MA; her sister, Attorney Jean Carey Davis of Andover, MA., and her cousin, the Rev. Arthur C. Flynn of Reading, MA.

Nancy was eternally grateful for the love and support of her family and her close-knit group of friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Kaplan Family Hospice House for their comfort, care, and assistance.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her memorial service will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, Nancy had requested that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org).
