Obituary: Carol F. (Gillis) Tremblay, 83

Carol celebrated life with a strong work ethic and a wide ranging sense of humor.

Danvers, MA - Carol F. (Gillis) Tremblay,83, of Danvers, passed away while surrounded by her family on Monday, March 7, 2016. She was the devoted wife of Ernest S. Tremblay for 66 years.

Carol was born at her family's home in Boxford, Massachusetts on August 11, 1932. She enjoyed her early childhood years in Boxford before moving to Danvers in the 1940's. She was a member of the class of 1950 at Holten High in Danvers. Carol worked hard to help build her family's businesses, working a variety of jobs at Vic's Drive In and managing the Victorian Motor Inn.

She had many hobbies, including ceramics, gardening, cooking, baking and travel. She was a talented seamstress and an accomplished musician on the Hammond Organ. She was also an avid football and hockey fan who attended many of her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Carol loved entertaining, and hosted many large and memorable parties and cookouts over the years at her home. Her home was always a fun and welcoming destination for several generations of cherished friends and relatives.

Carol celebrated life with a strong work ethic and a wide ranging sense of humor. Her generous and loving nature touched all who knew her, including her many pets.

"Mimi" as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren and family, is survived by her husband Ernest, son Dana Tremblay and wife Cheryl of Melbourne, FL and son Ernest Tremblay Jr and wife Louanne of Boxford, Daughters Karen Adams and Sheila Cummings, both of Danvers and daughter-in-law Kathleen Tremblay of Boston. She is survived by eight grandchildren; Joanna (Tremblay) Beske of Orange, CA, Jesse Tremblay of Milwaukie, OR, Dan Tremblay of Danvers, Cody Tremblay of Amesbury, Tyler Cummings of Truckee, CA, Adam Cummings of Danvers, Kasey Tremblay of Boxford, and Ashley (Cummings) Burns of Truckee, CA as well as 8 great-grandchildren. Carol is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Mullins of Venice, FL and Elizabeth Dirks and Ellen LeFavour both of Danvers. She is preceded in death by her parents Harold James Gillis and Marion (Greene) Gillis Newhall. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours Thursday, March 10, from 4pm to 8pm at the Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Middleton, MA. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 11, at 10:30am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kaplan Family Hospice House.
