Riverside School in Danvers Reveals New Mural

The children unveiled the mural at the school on Friday.

Students at Riverside School in Danvers revealed a mural on Friday that they created with the help of local mural artist David Victor that focuses on healthy living and learning. The mural is displayed on both sides of the entrance to the school.

“Art is important to the human spirit and the healthy growing up of our kids,” Victor said as he addressed the students shortly before the mural was unveiled. “It’s not just about the food we eat or the exercise, it’s about nurturing the spirits of all our young people and indeed, ourselves. This mural is a testament to that.”

A central theme to the mural is the Endicott Pear Tree, which is believed to be the oldest living cultivated fruit tree in America, dating all the way back to the 1630s.

“It has survived hurricanes and storms and vandalism,” Victor said. “And yet it continues to produce fruit.”

The Healthy Living, Healthy Learning theme for the mural was developed by the Riverside administration with assistance from the school’s art teachers and DanversCARES.
